ABSTRACT

Gail Paradise Kelly was a leading feminist in the field of comparative education in North America throughout the 1970s and 1980s until her premature death in 1991. It is easy to discern the roots of Gail Kelly’s passion for social justice and her activist orientation to all issues of social equality in her early life. Gail Kelly was active in the Comparative and International Education Society from the 1970s onward until 1990. She also served as Vice-President, President-Elect, and President from 1986 to 1988. There are many different ways of assessing the impact that Gail Kelly has had on the field of comparative education, and on her colleagues and students. The Gail Paradise Kelly Memorial Lectureship, a lecture series on feminism and education with particular reference to their international context, was established at the University of Buffalo in the early 1990s in her honor. Gail Kelly was a brilliant and committed scholar—animated by her research questions and absolutely meticulous methodologically.
