Exposure to victimization is associated with significant and often severe negative health consequences making it a pertinent public health issue. In this chapter, we discuss the impact of victimization on mental, physical, and behavioral health. The significant link that brain structure and function plays on the association between exposure to victimization and health consequences is covered at length. We conclude the chapter with a discussion of the evidence-based programs and practices that are shown to be successful in preventing and intervening in violence exposure.
