ABSTRACT

This chapter serves as an introduction to the seventh volume of the TIRF-Routledge series, “Global Research on Teaching and Learning English.” We begin by explaining the goals and purpose of this volume, particularly focusing on why taking a regional focus will benefit readers interested in Chinese-speaking learners of English. The chapter continues with a brief overview of the contents of this book, which are organized into three thematic sections: Language Assessment, Perceptions in University Contexts, and Technology and Young Learners. One aim of this chapter is to highlight the complex methodological strategies that the authors have utilized. Another goal is to acquaint readers with the implications that the research will have for English language learners, educators, test developers, and policy makers. We conclude this chapter by revisiting the intentions of the volume, noting our hope that the individual chapters this book is composed of add to the field’s understanding of effective ELE solutions in Chinese-speaking regions.
