ABSTRACT
This chapter will explore the prevalence and incidence of dementia in the prison population as well as some of the problems with current estimates and appropriate cognitive screening tools to detect dementia in prison populations. The following section will explore the current support and care of prisoners with dementia and the barriers and challenges faced by the prisoner and the prison service. Lastly, the chapter will end with an exploration of innovative initiatives to support prisoners with dementia and a discussion on the impact of a lack of robust evaluation of these initiatives.
