ABSTRACT

The socially responsible investments are trying to achieve returns closer to their stock market counterparts, but it’s not the same—always some trade-off. There are businesses, which prioritise doing good for society and also make a return for their investors. Annual Impact Investor Survey 2017 was conducted by the Global Impact Investing Network. It is eagerly awaited as the data offered an increasingly descriptive view of a dynamic and evolving impact investment market. The majority of respondents believe the entry of large-scale financial firms into impact investing will professionalise the market and bring in much-needed capital, but most also believe there is a risk of mission drift or impact dilution associated with this trend. New kinds of financial instruments are emerging to meet the needs of different kinds of investors like social impact bonds, that Goldman Sachs has pioneered.
