ABSTRACT

The use of storytelling through films offers opportunities for learners to not only develop their critical thinking and analytical skills but to also link classroom theory with real-world practice within their discipline. This chapter explores a multiplicity of films is used as the catalyst from sustainability within the context of finance. Each activity utilises different selections of films whose key messages and themes align with contemporary accounting and finance under and postgraduate degree curricula and enable accounting and finance student to explore the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) within the context of this subject area. Learners are expected to think about the statements in relation to the clips they have seen and then apply their wider knowledge of the SDGs and conversations on sustainability. It may be that in order to achieve this, tutors need to be more precise in terms of which SDGs to focus on.
