ABSTRACT

Behavioral activation is a main feature of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy applied to treating depression. The goal of behavioral activation is to decrease depressed behaviors by removing reinforcement for those behaviors while, at the same time, increasing the frequency of reinforcement for healthy, nondepressed behaviors. This case study illustrates how a school psychologist might work with a high school student with depression to increase opportunities for reinforcement via social interactions, physical activity, healthy eating, and improved school performance.
