ABSTRACT
Functional analysis is a method for empirically determining the environmental variables maintaining problem behavior. Functional analysis involves the systematic manipulation of the environment to confirm hypotheses regarding the function of behavior. The results are then used to develop effective, function-based intervention strategies. This chapter provides an example of the use of a brief functional analysis and subsequent function-based intervention to support the needs of an elementary student with a developmental disability.
