ABSTRACT

When the author’s analyst died suddenly in a horrific accident, she had no shared community and she had to find her own mourning rituals to perform. The work of repairing damaged attachments and learning to love was suspended; she had to finish these projects later and on her own. This chapter is about how the author learned of this shocking loss, what she felt in the aftermath, the difficulty of navigating her grief alone, and the discovery of her own grieving process in art making.
