ABSTRACT
This chapter offers a close reading of the oeuvres of two senior indigenous poets of the Moanan (indigenous Pacific) region. The close reading method here derives principally from ancestral and contemporary oceanic wayfinding, where signs of nature are gathered up in order to derive meaningful pathways in the oceanic world. One of the destinations of this thesis is to locate a Moanan or indigenous Pacific identity in English language texts. The chapter explores in greater depth decolonising, indigenous perceptions of self-determination, beauty, and struggle through poetry.
