ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors discuss experiences of using the Chicana/Latina feminist methodology of platicas. They provides a brief overview of how platicas have been conceptualized specifically within the context of the qualitative research in education. Platicas are both a methodology and method that can be tied to the Chicana/Latina feminist practices and the pedagogies of the home. The Latina feminist group put together an anthology of testimonios that represent different aspects of their lives, both professionally and personally. These testimonios are a manifestation of numerous platicas that occurred over the course of many years within the relationships of the members of the group. Huante-Tzintzun engages in platicas with Chicana/Latina feminist educators who actively disrupt traditional research methodologies, attempting to better understand the ways that these educators negotiate processes like tenure in conjunction with pushing back against the Eurocentric research approaches.
