ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the government-led and development-oriented poverty reduction programs in China, as well as exploring the potential for cooperation in poverty alleviation between China and the African countries, one that focuses on supporting knowledge sharing. It presents an overview of the role of the Chinese government in terms of the different policies and programs, which are directly responsible for the rapid poverty alleviation in China. One of the Chinese government’s key drivers to poverty alleviation is the establishment of the government-led special poverty alleviation programs. China has started sharing knowledge with Africa in the field of agriculture, medicine, telecommunications, infrastructure, and manufacturing; these areas would be very useful in achieving certain development targets, combating both extreme and moderate poverty. The agricultural-technical-educational training program implemented under the collaboration between China and Nigeria stands as a successful case for Sino-Africa agricultural knowledge sharing.
