ABSTRACT

A 2017 report in the United States described the powerful impact of what they termed a shadow system because educational experiences out of school time were hugely influential and discriminating factors as to success in school. Francesca Brotto described the impact on undergraduate, postgraduate, teacher and headship education courses, revised on the basis of the key Bridges principles. One of the outstanding strengths in St Aidan’s was its music education, its choirs and orchestras, the inspiring soloists whose renderings visibly moved the Bertelsmann judges. There are provocative comparisons to be made between the criteria on which the Bertelsmann Prize rested and those websites which identify the ten best international schools in the world, as found on the prycewarner site. The Homes and Property UK website, which advises on boroughs with the best state schools, lists those in which there are the highest number of applications for every one place.
