ABSTRACT

It is imperative in a country like India that discourses on nation and nationalism should address issues of class, caste, and religious communities in relation to all their problematic dialectics with gender. This paper intends to chart the process in which the definitions of nation and nationalism tend to differ when the reality and its experiences centre on the intersectionalities between caste and gender. This paper explores these ‘different’ realities and experiences through the literature by Dalit women, specifically by Bengali Dalit women writers. This paper also attempts to underline the importance of delineating the ‘difference’ of and publication of such literature for the comprehensive realization of feminist politics.
