ABSTRACT

This commentary considers ‘Remarks on Daniel Lagache’s Presentation: “Psychoanalysis and Personality Structure”’ as a text that acts as a major summary of Lacan’s views on the imaginary and identification, as well as a text in which Lacan is starting to present how the symbolic gets mixed in with each. Lacan’s discussion of the spherical mirror schema crystalizes his views on these topics at the time. It also turns out that the topic of negation, in language and desire, is far more important in this essay than one might have assumed.
