ABSTRACT

Both humility and compassion may uniquely contribute to inclusive leadership. To the degree that inclusion requires that leaders be aware of the unique strengths of others, humility would be an asset. To the degree that inclusive leaders must care about the pain of others, especially that of social exclusion or marginalization, compassion would also be an asset. However, both have limits in their effectiveness and so may in turn complement each other. In this chapter, I propose how each of these two prosocial qualities are not just interrelated but also mutually dependent in their effect on inclusive leadership.
