ABSTRACT
Arguing against the view that populists oppose the idea of political representation, the chapter builds on J. S. Mill’s view of representative government to develop an interpretation of populism as a theory of political representation. This framework can allow us to distinguish between practices of representation that can claim to stand for the people and those that cannot.
