ABSTRACT

The Association pour le développement de l’histoire culturelle (Association for the Development of Cultural History) (ADHC) was officially born on 1st January 2000, in the form that the 1901 Law had planned. Its origin goes back to the late 1990s, when a number of teachers and researchers (among whom are the present president of the Association, Pascal Ory and the two vice-presidents, Jean-Yves Mollier and Jean François Sirinelli) noticed both the importance this specialty had taken among historical sciences and its lack of visibility or even of recognition, in France. The Association wanted to be a link between all those who were working in this field and a place where theories and practices of cultural history could be debated.
