The Hindus on trial. Blasphemy charges and the study of Hinduism

This chapter focuses on a case where representatives of Hindu nationalism accused a Western scholar of Hinduism of blasphemy. It analyses the battle of values and argues for the necessity of a reflection on whether, in a study of blasphemy, such a right to blaspheme claimed by scholars of religious studies is morally justified. More generally, it raises the issue of religious authority.
