ABSTRACT
This chapter argues that medieval Christian accusations of blasphemy were mostly theological and legal constructs that rulers and theologians used to enhance their power and consider the nature of God. Popular concerns that blasphemy might cause communal injury only emerge in conjunction with the growth of Christian anti-Semitism.
