ABSTRACT

The “End Zone Game” is a small-sided game that uses a Game-Centred Approach to teaching and coaching. It is a low organised game that is easy to set up. It can be modified to increase the technical and tactical difficulty level of most Territory game-like practices. Five different adaptations are described and discussed that can be used to re-create game-like scenarios focusing on a variety of technical and tactical challenges. Each version can be designed to bring about a different response for attackers and defenders. Tactical strategies such as width in attack, depth in defence, zonal marking, overload and “third man running” can be practised in game-like situations, which helps players develop their in-game tactical thinking abilities.
