ABSTRACT

Coaching is a multidimensional endeavour. To develop thinking players, coaches should make deliberate efforts, where possible and appropriate, to frame the four main pillars of coaching. These are technical skills, tactical strategies, physical abilities and psychological practices, which should be seen not as independent entities but, rather, as overlapping holistic dimensions. Accordingly, effective and modern coaching of territory games requires training methods that facilitate the development of thinking players who can make quick and appropriate decisions in a variety of game situations.
