ABSTRACT

Within the framework of the new mechanical philosophy, the relevance of mechanisms in many fields of science has been underlined. Neuroscience and social science are two of those fields. Given this scenario, it could be argued that sharing a mechanistic stance approximates neuroscience and social science, which would facilitate their integration and collaboration. This chapter addresses several arguments in support of that idea. I will argue that they rely on the unjustified assumption that the same notion of mechanism operates in both fields.
