ABSTRACT
This chapter analyzes the relationship between democratization and social movements. Arguing that most people in the world still lack access to social movements as a way of making claims, it carefully outlines the processes that underlie democratization. It then shows that shared processes facilitate both democratization and social movements; recognizing the ways that democratization can support the growth of social movements, and the ways that movements can support or limit the growth of democracy.
