ABSTRACT
From their beginnings in 2009, the Amplify Open and Affirming Conferences (Amplify) have provided spaces for queer and transgender, and non-queer and non-transgender Christians in the Asia Pacific region to gather, explore, and embody what “open and affirming” means for Christianity in the modern world. These conferences have been held in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Taiwan. This chapter is a minimally redacted reproduction of Yap Kim Hao’s keynote address at Amplify in Singapore, which he delivered on September 13, 2014 at Free Community Church. This LGBTQ ally, pastor, theologian, and activist passed away on November 16, 2017.
