ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the basic documents regulating Nigeria’s efforts at combating terrorism and violent extremism. Prior to the outbreak of the Boko Haram crisis, Nigeria demonstrated commitment to counter-terrorism through its support for various instruments at the defunct Organisation of African Unity (OAU) now African Union (AU), United Nations and other related international instruments. The psychological rehabilitation of terrorism offenders consists of efforts to re-establish human capacity and function in society, restore for a good condition, achieve self-efficacy and be able to reintegrate into society. The serving military and civilian personnel working at the camp are entitled to daily allowances on the approved official rates which are paid into their personal bank accounts. The Reinsertion stage involves the provision of rudimentary vocational training to the ex-combatants while the Resettlement stage involves transferring the ex-combatants to their respective states of origin after graduation.
