ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to examine the scope and changing nature of the interaction between airports and airlines. The chapter explores the complexities of the airport–airline relationship, discusses how and why it has evolved and highlights some of the risks and opportunities involved from both an airport and airline perspective. It considers key aspects of the relationship, including airport charges, airport services/facilities airport-airline contracts, and the impact of developments associated with changing airport and airline business models. The importance of the route development process for airports and airlines is also discussed.
