ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book shows that China invokes Westphalian principles of sovereignty and self-determination in the post-Cold War world. It explores the historical evolution of China’s world order thinking but focuses on the most developments. The book focuses on the interaction between the national political and economic structures of the Newly Industrialized Countries and the international political economy. It considers some of the economic, political, cultural and historical forces that are shaping Germany’s path. The book argues that historical and global cultural elements are used by nation states to construct corporate identities and strategies of action. It analyzes the evolution of Soviet and post-Soviet foreign policy from the Brezhnev period to the present, and the Soviet Union’s role as superpower and bloc leader. The book discusses the foreign policy debates in Russia, and key foreign policy issues in the Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
