ABSTRACT

The problems of transition in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, aggravated by the implications involved in the collapse of the Soviet Union, constitute a part of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) agenda. OSCE involvement is an important test for the credibility of the principle of indivisible security. The OSCE, often in joint approaches with the European Union in Moscow, brought the international community's alarm and horror at the war and the immense human suffering it has caused to the attention of the Russian leaders. As the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE) involvement in conflict resolution became more concrete and its field activities increased continuously, interaction with as well as the need for co-operation with other international organisations in the same field increased substantially. The CSCE objective is to find a political solution to a crisis or a conflict.
