ABSTRACT

The specific objective of the study in this chapter was to identify and briefly describe most, if not all, of the significant long-term (emerging) national and international issues in the area of renewable natural resources. As the system the resource planner studies is made up or many subsystems that are interdependent, overlapping, or hierarchically organized, the issues that follow are internal to the renewable natural resource system such as timber, land use, and water; or are external, but have a direct impact on the economic growth, weather, and climate systems. In terms of scale, policy options frequently include expansion of the organization's mission or physical size. There is a growing public demand for stable organizations small enough to be meaningful, satisfying, and viable. In terms of time, the public is looking generally for immediate and visible results.
