ABSTRACT

Along with the refusal to build a Tower of Babel, the existentialist paradigm of Russian society has changed. Russian society cannot exercise any financial control whatever over such income streams. Yet the former "Easter egg" hatched Russian communism, and the latter has hatched unmotivated murders in American high schools. The average Russian, like the average American, is a mixture of bloodlines, like a good exotic cocktail. Russian cultural genes are no less universal than American ones. America is vitally interested precisely in the renaissance of Russian film rather than in cultural expansionism.
