ABSTRACT

Family, School and Community Involvement was the topic they addressed at the 1993 National Educator Conference. Few connections are more central to working educators' success than the relationship between families and schools. The practitioner's view diverged from the researcher's although much of the discussion reflected and verified the findings of both the social scientists present at the conference and others working in the area of family-school interactions. The community and the schools are sources of social capital relevant to a child's development. Strengthening the link between home and school is a fundamental building block of school success. Home videos of teacher conferences and back-to-school nights are commonly used to communicate with parents who are otherwise unable to attend. Milken Award Recipients are in the vanguard or American educators working to promote parent-school partnerships for all parents. The family-school relationship is influenced by many factors.
