ABSTRACT

The North Koreans had achieved victory after victory. When the invading forces were confronted with this rabble in American uniforms, they ran right over them — a US retreat was inevitable. The North Korean Army, which had been trained and equipped by the Russians with tanks, a few airplanes, and very good artillery and weapons, crossed the thirty-eighth parallel into the South with the objective of conquering all of South Korea. Douglas MacArthur put in front of the North Koreans some of the worst troops who have ever served in the US Army in modern times. While the US forces shattered the North Korean Army and allied forces broke out of the Pusan Perimeter and made the famous link-up, the North Koreans got away. The US success as a result of Inchon was greatly exaggerated. Douglas MacArthur's action in throwing poorly trained forces into the defense of South Korea was near criminal.
