ABSTRACT

This chapter shows that some problems concerning the development of agriculture and food production. Intensification of agricultural production is a necessity for Polish agriculture. During the entire post-war period 1944-1985 a characteristic or the Polish agriculture has been the search for ways and means of rapid growth and the reconstruction of traditional agriculture. Intensification of agricultural production is a necessity for Polish agriculture. The supply of agricultural labor also shows a decreasing tendency for two reasons. First, rural residents leave villages for work outside agriculture, second, the quality of agricultural labor is diminishing, the result of workers getting old and of the increased number of women employed in agriculture. The main problem at the present stage of agricultural development in Poland is the unsatisfactory level of redundant production. The food economy and agriculture are in crisis. The focal point of the strategy for agricultural development should be to promote free economic choices regulated by prices and incomes.
