ABSTRACT

Joint Ventures and Multinational Enterprises (MME) as a form of the internationalization of the operations of firms from developing countries are a phenomenon. This chapter considers MNEs of developing countries as an intrinsic component of the developing countries' strategy for the strengthening of collective and individual self-reliance. The substance of MNEs is a commitment by two or more partners to co-operate on a continuous basis over a given time for jointly defined purposes, sharing risks, benefits and decision-making. The notion that multinational enterprises of developing countries have not yet reached the efficiency of TNEs deserves additional interpretation. Economic cooperation among developing countries and MNEs should constitute a lever for the elimination of the old vertical type of integration of the developing countries in the international division of labour. The main objective of MNEs in the communications sector would be to strengthen their individual and collective information-communications capacities through the establishment of channels for direct exchange of information between developing countries.
