ABSTRACT

The record of international organizations in supporting economic co-operation among developing countries (ECDC)/technical co-operation among developing countries (TCDC) has been impressive. The United Nations Development Programme has been a major supporter and financier of these and other related ECDC as well as TCDC activities, in a systematic way. Specialized financing agencies have also been involved in assisting ECDC. Amongst the regional development banks, the efforts of the Inter-American Development Bank should be singled out: right from the start it has considered support to regional integration as one of its priorities. Among the sub-regional financing institutions, two should be singled out: the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the Caribbean Development Bank. Both have enjoyed the support of world-wide and regional investment financing institutions. A distinction should be drawn between support of ECDC research activities and support of ECDC negotiations.
