ABSTRACT

An extremely important element, which contributed greatly to increasing the effectivness of the struggle for the New International Economic Order, is the strategic orientation of the developing countries towards the concept of self-reliance. This concept is the fruit of the developing countries' long-standing struggle for new international economic relations. The OPEC countries will no doubt continue to provide financial assistance to the developing countries, for the guarantee of political and moral support within the framework of the Non-alignment Movement and the Group of 77 is vitally important to them. A greater proportion of OPEC surpluses directed to the industrialized countries were held in bank deposits. The industrialized countries are exploiting the existing economic structure of the developing countries in order to create new mechanisms designed to maintain the developing countries' dependence on the industrialized nations.
