ABSTRACT
The concern in this section is with theoretical aspects. The introduction serves simply as a bench-mark, to give direction, and as a point to which those who become lost can return to begin once more their journey through the text. It is not to be regarded as comprehensive, the basic welfare economics being covered in most textbooks on environmental economics (although not always with the same emphasis on the intertemporal nature of the problem).
