ABSTRACT

Latin American participation in the Pacific Basin is not a question but a fact, as shown by Latin American delegates in major conferences. Instead, we should address the perceptions of Latin American countries toward the Pacific Community concept. What could be the contribution of Latin American countries to strengthen this concept? Latin American countries would be interested in having the specific interests and problems of developing countries taken into account in these cooperation schemes, mainly in the sphere of free trade and free access to markets in industrialized countries.
