ABSTRACT

The major reason for the lack of focus on the family aspects of turnaround migration is professional specialization. "Despite the massive magnitude of residential mobility, there has been relatively little research on post-movement adjustments of individuals and families". Migrants range from the young rebels who are attempting to escape from self-perceived inequities of modern urban society to the urbane, upper-middle-class professional who wishes to retire early and enjoy the supposed serenities of rural life. Most of the migrant families have moved to rural areas out of choice rather than by force. They are convinced that in a rural area they can obtain those quality-of-iife attributes that are lacking in urban society. Each of the families is quick to admit that their rural residence not only has changed their family life patterns, but also that living in a rural area has permitted them to develop intrafamily activities that they prefer.
