ABSTRACT
In chapter 8 I dealt with the democratic tradition by sketching the outlines of a philosophy of democracy as it is suggested in the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity. I dealt with these ideals not so much as they are fully realized in our democracy, but rather as they point the way to our realizing democracy more fully.
