ABSTRACT

In 1982, the Japan Management Association sent out a questionnaire by post to 635 manufacturing companies on their production techniques and on the transferability of production systems. 238 companies gave responses. The expression 'Management Style' is ambiguous. This chapter discusses the transferability of management style from the aspect of the transfer of skills. The techniques used in an enterprise include not only the technique with which a worker operates a machine for production or for data processing but also the technique with which a manager can control workers in the process of purchasing, manufacturing, selling, financing, data processing, educational training and research and development. In the context of the historical economic development of different countries, the Industrial Revolution established the factory system in all countries, although the beginning of the era was different in different cases. One of the characteristics of the Industrial Revolution was the mechanisation of working tools.
