ABSTRACT
Following the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Egypt detached itself from the Soviet Bloc, and commenced an extended process of reorientation toward the West, primarily the United States. The reasons for this shift were essentially political and economic, but they also comprised a determination to rearm the Egyptian Armed Forces with western weaponry.
