ABSTRACT
In Parts III and IV the definition of high quality tanks includes the following tanks (mentioned in the text): T-72/improved T-72; Chieftain in Jordan and Oman (but not Chieftain Mk.5 in Iran and Kuwait); M-60 A3; Merkava. Similarly, the high quality interceptors include F-14, F-15 and MiG-25. High quality strike and multi-role aircraft include F-16, F/A-18, Mirage 2000, Tornado, MiG-29 and Su-24. Short range SAMs include all models which normally fulfill the task of providing air defense to ground forces, though these weapons systems may also be part of the Air Force or Air Defense Force. Defense expenditure figures include foreign military grants. Arms transfers to and from Middle East countries cover transfers during the most recent three years; numbers of weapons systems mentioned include systems in service and in storage; and bombers are included in numbers of total combat aircraft.
