ABSTRACT
This introductory chapter reviews the main strategic trends of the period between October 1991 and late 1992-early 1993. For the sake of clarity of presentation, there will be some overlapping with events already covered in last year’s Military Balance (1990–1991), either because of the continuity of some of the developments or because, in some cases, new data has been disclosed that was unknown a year ago.
