ABSTRACT
Official Name of State: Republic of Yemen. On May 22, 1990, YAR and PDRY proclaimed their formal unification as one state. “Unity day” was Nov. 30, 1990. A transition period ensued. Merger of the armed forces was not accomplished. Difficulties between the two former Yemen states became acute in 1994, and led to civil war in May 1994 between former YAR and former PDRY troops.
