ABSTRACT

The widespread diffusion of missile technology, together with technological developments in arms since the onset of the microelectronic revolution, have created a new style of conventional warfare. This chapter is intended to explore the impact of these developments on the strategic doctrines of Israel and its neighbors and on the conventional strategic balance between them during this decade. The overall strategic balance is of course influenced by other highly important issues, such as global political developments and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. These will not be discussed here.
