ABSTRACT
Israel’s qualitative edge lies at the heart of its traditional security doctrine; the centrality of this issue was established in the early days of the state by the nation’s modern founder and first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion. For Ben-Gurion, qualitative superiority based on material and moral qualities was both the inevitable imperative of the Jewish humanistic heritage and the sine qua non for Israel’s continued survival.
