ABSTRACT

The issue of nuclear war has rapidly risen to the forefront of American consciousness in recent years. The first hints of this trend were probably heard on the evening news, where charismatic anchormen smiled and reported about some new nuclear missile, or some new twist in the arms control talks. The situation seemed to grow more significant as Americans learned more, perhaps from a television special, about how many nukes we have, how many the other side has, and how many times over we can be destroyed.
