ABSTRACT

COCOM, the Coordinating Committee on Multilateral Export Controls, is the export control arrangement of the United States and its Western allies. It was created in 1949 and has been functioning since January 1950. Its membership includes the NATO countries (minus Iceland), plus Japan and most recently Australia, which joined in April 1989.
